German SS Hoher Führer Neuer Art Visor Cap

The black visor cap was introduced for wear by the SS in 1932. The earliest models were piped in white and had a lower peak than later visor caps. The cap bands were wool for enlisted ranks and velvet for officers. The visors are found in both leather and vulkanfiber. This unique model was in conformity with regulations promulgated in 1934, ordering the institution of aluminum piping for officers from Oberführer to Obergruppenführer and authorizing silver piping for the Reichsführer-SS. The piping on this particular cap shows piping aged to a copper underlay, but has tested out as silver over the copper-braided piping. The chincords are likewise silver.
