Schutzpolizei NCO Uniform

This item belongs to the following collection: Willi Schumacher's German Uniform Collection. Information appearing in gray fields comes directly from the owner of the collection.

This heavy weight tunic is produced in a Police blue/green wool. It has a deep chocolate brown badge cloth collar with the front and lower edges piped in green cord, as are both right and left edges of the vertical front closure, the top of the (chocolate brown badge cloth) turn back cuffs and the edges of the tail vent. The tunic has the usual four pockets with scalloped flaps—the two breast pockets being pleated. The front closure has eight silver finished pebbled aluminum buttons, which match the ones on the rest of the tunic. The collar has a pair of “other ranks” tabs, which have a green backing with two bright silver aluminum columns. The tabs are piped with an silver aluminum twist rope. The sewn-in shoulder boards have a light green badge cloth backing that doubles as the “piping.” The brown facing has a silver aluminum flatwire tressing around the entire perimeter and “V” shaped brown stitching. Each has a pair of silver finished aluminum pips. These indicate the rank of Hauptwachtmeister/Kompaniehauptwachtmeister for the Schutpolizei. The left breast pocket has a set of loops for an award and there are loops for a large ribbon bar though this uniform comes with a medium sized Police ribbon bar.

Just below the pocket is a hand applied silver flatwire (over blue/green badge cloth) SS membership patch to indicate that the wearer was a former member of the SS. The left sleeve has a Police sleeve eagle; this is a machine embroidered green cloth example over a blue/green wool backing. This has been hand applied to the tunic. The interior is fully lined in a dark green heavy-duty cloth, while the sleeves are lined in a white striped grey cloth. There is a single pocket on the left side, which is ink stamped “Po 1940.” The top right (at the closure) is stamped with all of the size information as well as the name of the manufacturer, which is Roger Kauert K.G. There is a slot for the dagger but no hanger is present. The tunic is a large size, at least a 40. The breeches are produced in a material that matches the tunic. Each lower leg has a four button closure. The fly has five buttons. There are slash type, vertical pockets at the hips and a watch pocket on the right side. The rear has a cinch belt with a metal buckle and it has a reinforced seat. The interior utilizes a grey cloth for the waist reinforcement and the pocket bags. It is well-marked with size and maker information. These are large as well, with a waist and length of 34-36.
