French Mobile Gendarmerie NCO's Kepi, 1980s

This is a French Mobile Gendarmerie sous-officier (non-commissioned officer) kepi dating to the 1980s. The kepi features the gold flaming grenade and elite stripe of the mobile gendarmerie. A gold lace chinstrap is attached to the front with gold side buttons embossed with a flaming grenade. The kepi is dark blue with a royal blue top. On the interior sweatband is a manufacturer's label for Maison A. Soulié.

U.S. Army MSG Kenneth McGee (Ret) donated this kepi to the WHRC in May 2012. McGee served 13 years in the White House Communications Agency under Presidents Carter, Reagan, and Bush. In 1984 he attended the 40th Anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France, where he received this kepi from a French telephone man who was working alongside him. McGee left the Communications Agency in 1989 and eventually retired from the Army in 1997.1
