This is a U.S. Navy steel M-1 helmet with liner from World War II (1939-1945). It is painted blue-gray and features a painted rank insignia for Lt. Commander. The liner features a green canvas suspension system with a leather sweatband. The fixed chinstrap loops hold a khaki canvas chinstrap.
