Israeli Defense Forces "Hitelmacher" Style Field Cap

This is an Israeli Defense Forces "hitelmacher" field cap from the late 1940s. It is made from khaki cloth and has a long neck flap to prevent excessive sun exposure. The neck flap can be pinned up by two buttons as well as a set of metal hooks. A name appears to be written on the interior in Hebrew.

The IDF procured these caps beginning in the late 1940s from a Jewish clothing firm in New York using the "hitelmacher" (Yiddish for hat maker) title in their name. "Hitelmacher" eventually became the cap's nickname.
