This helmet does not have a particular designation, but many scholars place it in the category of the Austrian M-17 style helmets for its great similarity to that model. The major differences between the combat variety and this civil style helmet are the lighter gauge of steel and the screen vents. This particular example contains an unusual large police decal on the front that has been attributed to the Luftschutzpolizei (Air Protection Police). In fact, these Austrian-manufactured helmets were used by several civilian police and fire services during the Third Reich.
