Usually classified as a liner (sous-casque radio-char, or tank crew radio helmet liner) the French M-58 was meant to be worn inside the M-51 NATO steel helmet. French armored vehicle crews wore the M-58 without the protection of the steel shell because of cramped conditions inside tanks.
