German Army M-35 Helmet with Covered Tricolor Insignia

This is a German M-35 steel helmet from World War II (1939-1945).  It is a darker olive green in color, showing that it may have been issued pre-1940, when the color of the manufactured helmets was changed.  It also has air vents typical of the M-35 styling.  On the left side there is a decal showing that it was issued to the army.  However, the German state tricolor insignia is covered with additional paint, implying that this helmet was still in use in 1940 when it was announced that helmets would no longer carry the colors.1  This helmet is missing its leather liner as well.  The metal liner band gives the date of manufacture as 1939.
