Italian 4th Alpini Regiment Enlisted Man's Cap

This is an World War II (1939-1945) Italian 4th Alpine Infantry Regiment enlisted man’s cap. This type of cap is called a cappello alpino and was worn by the mountain troops who served in the Alps along northern Italy. The mountain artillery badge on the front, made from black plastic, indicates that the owner was an enlisted soldier and member of the 4th Alpini regiment. The red pompon, called a nappina, on the left-hand side indicates that this regiment was raised from Aosta in Northwest Italy. The cap is made from felt. The cap band and the sweatband are made from leather.
