Italian MVSN Captain's Black Dress Fez
This is a Italian Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale (National Security Volunteer Militia), or MVSN, dress fez from World War II (1939-1945). The fez features a MVSN Model 1938 officer's embroidered badge on the front.1 A black knotted cord is fastened to the top and wraps around the right side of the fez. Also fastened to the top is a large black tassel. A set of ranks stripes are attached to left side and indicate that the wearer held the rank of Captain, or centurione.2 On the inside is white silk liner with a manufacturer's stamp.
