This French Departmental Gendarmerie kepi belonged to a commandant (Chef d’Escadron), indicated by the four silver embroidered stripes around the top of the cap. The cap features the Departmental Gendarmerie colors of a black body with blue top and silver trimmings, opposed to the gold trimmings of the Mobile Gendarmerie.
