German Heer General's Old-Style Visor Cap

This is a German Heer (Army) officer's "old-style" visor cap.1 It is piped in gilt wire, which was worn only by those of the General ranks.2 The Heer service eagle and wreath are hand embroidered in gold wire. The gold color was in accordance with January 1943 regulations.3 Officially, this style of cap was discontinued in 1942, however, many officers continued to wear them up to the end of the war.4 The presence of the gold insignia indicates that the General who owned this hat was one of these officers.
