French Gendarmerie NCO's Kepi
This French kepi belonged to an Adjutant-Chef (Chief Adjutant) in the National Gendarmerie (national police). The Chief Adjutant is approximately equal to a U.S. Sergeant Major and is distinguished by the addition of a thin red line separating the rank bars. On the kepi, this is indicated by the red woven into the silver rank embroidery around the top of the cap.
