Imperial German M-16 Steel Helmet, WWI

This is an Imperial German Army Model 1916 steel helmet from World War I (1914-1918). It features a field gray-green paint finish, which shows moderate wear. The interior has a post-war replacement liner and liner retaining rivets, but is of the style worn during the period. At the back of the neck guard are remnants of a large postal label where a American solider had the helmet mailed home as a souvenir. The manufacturer is the Eisenhuttenwerk firm of Thale, as evidenced by the “E.T.” stamp on the inner left skirt.
