This Imperial German Model 1917 steel helmet belonged to a member of the Kaiserliche Marine (Imperial Navy) during the First World War (1914-1918). It is painted black, with a naval anchor, crown, and banner insignia on the left side. The original three-pad liner is still attached to the metal liner band, along with an ersatz, or variant, woven cloth-paper chinstrap.
