French Service Kepi of Gendarmerie Division General Louis Ouvrard

This is the service kepi worn by Gendarmerie Division General Louis Ouvrard during the 1980s. The kepi body is black and features three silver stars on the front above a gold oak leaf embroidered chinstrap, both of which distinguish his rank and service. The top is royal blue. Ouvrard's initials are stamped on the interior sweatband.

Louis Ouvrard was born in 1924. He joined the French Gendarmerie in 1943 and spent his early years stationed in various colonies including Indochina. In 54, he was sent to Saigon in Vietnam. He received the rank of brigade general in 1980 and was made a divisional general in 1983. He died in 1998. During his service he earned the rank of officer in the legion of honor and commander in the legion of merit.
