French Service Kepi of Controller General 2nd Class Le Caron de Chocqueuse

This kepi belonged to Controller General 2nd Class Hervé-Serge-Marie-Raynald Le Caron de Chocqueuse. It is the service version made from olive green twill with an embroidered chinstrap of bay and oak leaves with acorns. This kepi dates around 1940.

Controller General Serge Le Caron de Chocqueuse (1881-1965)

Serge Le Caron de Chocqueuse was born in 1881. He joined the French military in 1901 and was assigned to the cavalry in 1915. By 1918, he was a controller of the army, meaning he was in charge in part of the finances for the army. In 1926, Serge was promoted to 1st class controller. By 1930, he was made controller general. He kept this position until 1944 when he took over as administrator general of radio. During his service, Serge was made an officer in the Legion of Honor and received the Cross of War in 1914 and 1918.
