Danish M-23 Steel Helmets

The Danish Model 1923 helmet was first produced in the 1920s for use by the military of Denmark. The helmet is manufactured from steel and has a leather liner and chinstrap secured to the shell by rivets into a metal band. The shell design is highly original with a very wide base with a cut in the front to provide a sustantial field of vision. The helmet also has a slot cut in the back skirt so that it can be attached to a backpack. The helmet was designed by Lieutenant Colonel H.E. Johnsen and had ventilation holes, but the holes were later removed on production models. The first helmets produced used smooth paints but later models had anti-reflective textured paints applied.1
