CBI Theater U.S. Army Officer's Felt Visor Hat, WWII

This visor hat has a light khaki fur felt body with olive drab mohair hatband, which is a configuration typical of the CBI (China-Burma-India) Theater during World War II. The front features an English-made officer’s screw back eagle. The interior has no maker logo, which likely makes the hat a private purchase.

U.S. Army Officer Hat Insignia

The U.S. Army officer hat insignia is based on the coat of arms from the Great Seal of the United States. It displays an American bald eagle with its wings rising upward holding thirteen arrows in its left talons and an olive branch in its right. Above the eagle, one can notice a constellation of thirteen stars surrounded by a cloud wreath. A shield with a combined thirteen stripes covers the eagle’s breast, and the motto “E Pluribus Unum” (out of many, one) is written on a scroll clenched in the eagle’s beak. This insignia came in metal and embroidered forms.
