101st Airborne MP's M-1C Paratrooper Helmet

Manufactured during the late months of 1944, indicated by the McCord lot number "1106B," this American M-1C paratrooper helmet belonged to a military policeman of the 101st Airborne Division.1  It was likely worn after the war when the 101st was on occupation duty in Austria.  During this period the clearly visible hand painted "Airborne" and 101st eagle insignia on the front would not have presented a personal danger. Also, a horizontal blue band extends around the sides and rear of the helmet. This insignia is repeated on the liner, which is in complete assembly except for the leather chinstrap.
